  • When our performance is off, we often practice more and try harder which may leave us frustrated that we cannot break free from this problem. Many interventions for performance challenges have been from a cognitive top-down approach which include reframing thinking and adjusting thought patterns. Brainspotting takes a more bottoms-up approach allowing you to resolve challenges from deep in the brain.

  • Prior to starting Brainspotting for sports performance, we will meet for an intake to complete a detailed history of the athlete’s development, injury history, previous performance challenges, and to define goals and expectations. Brainspotting can fit in the standard 50-minute session or a longer intensive session could be consider for faster and deeper healing.

    During the session we will conduct a brief check in to understand any improvements/challenges, identify a focus for the session, and conduct the Brainspotting session. At the end of the session, we will leave a few minutes for a debrief, grounding exercise, and to discuss next steps.

  • The frequency and duration of sessions are highly dependent on the individual, the depth of their injury/trauma history, and their overall mental health background. Anecdotally, teens and young adults tend to respond more quickly than adults when overcoming repetitive sports performance problems.

  • Telehealth sessions can be as effective as in-office sessions depending on the root cause of the issue. On occasion it may be helpful to conduct a session at an alternative location such as a training facility or competition location. In those instances, the client would be responsible for additional costs for travel for the therapist.
